How does the extra display hook up to your computer?
To attach the second monitor to your computer you first have to decide if you want it attached to the left or right side. Once you decide that, you take the stencil guide and place it on the side you want the monitor. The guide is two-sided and tells you where to place the metal plate. One side of the stencil is for right-sided placement, and the other is for left-sided placement. The stencil has a hole to know where to place the metal plate.
The metal plate has a foam sticker on the back that you attach to your laptop. It is permanent and sticks very fast. It is hard to move it to adjust/reposition. It is important to be confident in your placement. If you do want to move it, there is a second plate to use. An alternative for the second plate is to attach it to the other side so you can change which side the monitor is on. My second monitor is on the right-hand side since I am right-handed.
The secondary display monitor itself has a magnetic metal plate that you match up to the metal plate you attached to your computer. When it is matched up correctly you will hear a loud snap. The monitor can actually swivel. You swivel it out so that when your laptop is open, the monitor is attached and ready to be hooked up with the cords.
You receive 2 cords with your monitor. They both attach to the side of the monitor that is on the outside. One cord goes into your HDMI port and the other into your regular USB port. The cord that goes into your regular USB port is USB-C to USB-C cord with a USB-A adapter. It all depends on which kind of USB port your computer has if you need the USB-A adapter.
If for whatever reason, you do not want the dual monitor attached to your laptop at all it can also leave it detached. You still need the cords of course but can be propped up next to you on your desk space.
There are settings on your computer that need to be adjusted to make the dual monitor work. Go into your computer settings and click on display. Under the setting for multiple displays assign which monitor you want to be 1 (main screen) or 2 (dual screen).
On the far right side make sure that the extend these displays settings are set. This will allow you to have a dual screen for your desk space. The screens work independently.
