When you are living with a chronic illness, you tend to stay in the house more when cold weather hits. We all know that colder weather makes chronic illness/chronic pain worse. I am always looking for new and exciting cold weather comfort tips to make the season more bareable.

3 Tips for Cold Weather Comfort Tips

What Are You Wearing?

We’re going to kick the article off by talking about what you tend to wear when the colder months come. Whether you’re heading out to work, or whether you’re just going to be sitting at home all day, you still need to consider the clothes that you’re wearing to keep yourself warm. Sweaters, hoodies, thick pants, and even thermal underwear are all advisable if you’re venturing outside.

You don’t want to forget about those accessories when you’re braving the cold either. You can take a look at some womens thermal gloves from HeatHolders or other companies who offer them, and then take some time finding a scarf and hat to match. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just enough to keep you warm while the weather is against you.

Is Your Home Appropriate?

Another question to ask yourself is whether your home is appropriate for the cooler weather. You not only need to prepare yourself but your home as well, for instance, the fans need to be put away and the boiler needs to be serviced. Boilers and water systems often break down during winter as they aren’t used to working so hard until the colder weather hits. You might also want to invest in some thick blankets for the couch, these are always nice to snuggle into while you are chilling watching tv at the end of a hard day.

Don’t Forget A Coat

Lastly, winter might hit you suddenly when you least expect it. This is all too common these days as no two days are ever the same when it comes to the weather. One day you might wake up and see snow outside your door and not have prepared for this at all. If you don’t have a coat then you can use a warm cashmere or woollen jumper to stay warm until you can get your hands on one.

Most people will reuse coats from the previous year, this saves you parting with any excess money you might not have for luxuries. The thicker the coat, the better, and the warmer you will be. If you opt for a down filled coat then you won’t feel the cold at all, these are fantastic for those living in colder climates.

Layer up the right way

Instead of piling on the thickest sweater you own, try layering lighter pieces. A soft long-sleeve tee under a cozy sweater, paired with a cardigan or fleece, keeps you warmer because layers trap heat better. Plus, you can peel one off if the house gets too warm without feeling stuck in a bulky outfit.

Create a cozy corner at home

Pick one spot in your house—maybe near a window or by the couch—and turn it into your personal comfort zone. Add a warm throw blanket, a few soft pillows, and a good book or your favorite streaming setup. Having a go-to cozy corner not only keeps you physically comfortable but also gives you a mental boost on chilly days.

Hopefully you found this article helpful and it gave you some ideas on how to stay warm and comfortable when the colder weather hits. It will always cool down at some point, so it is best to be prepared for this.
