Being in pain is no fun. It’s the exact opposite of fun in fact, especially when your pain is chronic and you have to take various medications with unpleasant side effects just to get some relief. I am sharing 7 different home remedies for the pain you can try.

One thing you may be able to do to take the edge off a little is to supplement your pain medication with all-natural remedies so that you do not have to use quite so many. This is something you should ONLY do with the backing of your doctors, but if they say it’s fine, here are a few things you might want to try:

Move more

You might think that moving is the last thing you should do if you’re waiting on hip replacement surgery services, you’ve got a bad back or you’ve broken something, but providing you’re sensible, moving around more and getting a little exercise can be a great way to produce natural pain-killing endorphins without adding any che3micals into your body. Just make sure the physio approves first.

Eat a high fiber diet

There have been studies that show individuals who eat more fiber are healthier and suffer fewer osteoarthritis pains than those who do not consume much in the way of fiber. Not only that, but a high fiber diet can lower the levels of inflammation in the body, and since inflammation is a key cause of pain and inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, this can only be a positive thing.

Try a heating pad

Many people find that applying a hot compress, heating pad or hot water bottle to an area of their body that is affected by pain has a very comforting effect. Just make sure that it isn’t too hot or it could cause your pain to be even worse., Aim for a low level of heat over a long period of time.

Apply a cold compress

Conversely, a lot of people find that cold compresses are better than hot. This is particularly true of people who are dealing with joint pain or inflammation. Try both methods out and see which works best for you.

Take a magnesium bath

If you are suffering from muscle pains or cramps, try pouring one cup of magnesium flakes or Epsom salts into a warm bath and relax for 20-25 minutes. The magnesium will penetrate the skin barrier and help to soothe your pain. Not a fan of baths, apply some magnesium oil to the affected area instead.

Stretch

Regular stretching can improve your mobility, which can help to keep your pain away. It’s important, though, that any stretches you do are approved by your medical professional – don’t just hit the yoga studio and hope for the best – you need to be careful about which movements you do and do not try.

Take turmeric

Turmeric isn’t just a tasty curry ingredient – it’s a powerful anti-inflammatory that could help to ease your pain. You can take it in food – curries and stews,  in drinks such as golden milk or in the form of supplements, but bear in mind you do need at least 300mg to see noticeable effects.

I live with chronic widespread pain everyday. I am always looking for home remedies for pain because I do not like having to take more medications than I have to. I take enough of those as it is. Living with a chronic illness is hard, so is living with chronic pain.

Have you tried any of these 7 home remedies for pain?

I hope you get your pain under control! Do you have any others you have tried? I’d love to hear them thanks.
