We will also talk about the symptoms of dehydration and what to do if you experience them.

Did you know that dehydration is a common issue, especially during the summer? Follow these tips to prevent dehydration and stay hydrated. From drinking enough water to sporting events, this guide has you covered

What are the symptoms of dehydration?

The most common symptom of dehydration is thirst. Other symptoms can include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Constipation

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to drink more fluids and seek medical attention if the symptoms persist.

It is also important to stay hydrated so you do not develop kidney stones. This is especially true if you are a chronic kidney patient. I’m not the best at drinking enough water and have become dehydrated. This requires me to be hospitalized and be given IV fluids to become hydrated again. As a kidney patient, this is very dangerous.

A few things that can you can do to help with preventing dehydration are drinking lots of fluids and staying well-hydrated, eating more fruits and veggies (they contain water), and increasing the intake of salt in your diet. However, be careful about salt intake if you suffer from health conditions such as hypertension and are following the Dash Diet.

Drink plenty of liquids for hydration because it is easy on your stomach but remember not to drink too much as this will make you frequently urinate which leads to a decrease in body fluid levels. Drink beverages with electrolytes like sports drinks or coconut water if exercising.

My favorite sports drink is Propel water. It is flavored water, but it has extra electrolytes added to it. There are a variety of flavors, my favorite three flavors are Strawberry Lemonade, Peach, and Lemon.

Grassi Water

Another brand of water I recommend is Graasi Organic Barley Grass Water. It comes in 3 refreshing flavors: Lemongrass Ginger, Citrus Mint, and Cucumber Lime. Each bottle only has 35 calories and is low sugar so it’s great for diabetics.

How to prevent dehydration with proper food

There are some simple foods we can add to our diet that will also help in preventing dehydration. It is important to always follow a healthy diet.

1. Cucumbers are popular. They are 96% water, so they can help you stay hydrated. You can snack on cucumber slices throughout the day and dip them in hummus. Cucumber soup is another option that tastes great and provides plenty of fluid.

2. Celery is 95% water. Add celery to your snacks or meals for a quick way to get hydrated. Celery also has vitamins A and K which are important for your health.

3. Iceberg lettuce might not be the best lettuce because it is low in nutrients. It has a lot of water though! You can put it in your salad, and you can also use it to wrap things like tuna salad. You can put iceberg lettuce in stews too.

4. Tomatoes are about 94% water. All varieties of tomatoes, including grape and cherry, will give you hydration.

We can eat the smaller varieties of tomatoes on their own as a quick snack. We can slice the larger varieties for salads or sandwiches. You can also make tomato soup that is chilled instead of hot.

5. Watermelon is one fruit that can keep you hydrated. Watermelon has a lot of water in it with about 91% water content. You can eat fresh watermelon or add it to the fruit salad. You can also make a smoothie with it.

6. Broccoli is a vegetable that has 90% water and can keep you hydrated. It also supplies fiber and other important nutrients.

7. If you want to try something fun and new, then consider star fruit. It is high in water content at 91%. We can use it in a fruit salad to make it more delicious.

8. Strawberries are about 91% water. They can be added to salads or enjoyed on their own. You can also make smoothies and shakes with them.

What are some risks of dehydration?

If you are living with a chronic illness, such as diabetes or kidney disease, or any other chronic illness, you are more prone to become dehydrated. When you have a chronic illness, you are more than likely taking medication to treat that illness. Medications can also cause you to be at risk for dehydration.

If you have a chronic illness and notice that your medications are causing you to have severe dry mouth, it is important to let your doctor know. A chronic illness binder is a great way to keep track of any symptoms you have to discuss with your doctor.

I have several chronic illnesses and I know my medication gives me a severely dry mouth. I always have a drink next to me. I have tried to increase my water intake because of this.

Did you know you can become dehydrated even if you are drinking fluids all day long? It all depends on what you are drinking. Tea is a diuretic, causing you to pee more often and you can lose important fluids your body needs. The same goes for sugary drinks like soda. Sugary drinks can cause you to become dehydrated as well. The best thing to drink for preventing dehydration is water.

Since your body’s primary sources of water are food and drinks, it is important to have enough liquids. It can be hard for some people who live in warmer climates or work outdoors to stay hydrated though because they sweat more than others.

Preventing dehydration can be done by staying hydrated, and drinking water and other fluids. It’s also important to avoid alcohol consumption in humid environments because it can lead you to lose more fluid than normal through your sweat. If you feel dehydrated, drink a large glass of water or electrolyte-fortified beverage immediately before your workout session.

This will help ensure that the body has enough fluid for intense physical activity and keep athletes from getting dizzy during their games due to low blood sugar levels caused by not consuming sufficient fluids beforehand.

So, what can you do to make sure that you don’t become dehydrated? Drink plenty of fluids, especially water; eat hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables; avoid alcohol and caffeine; drink electrolyte solutions if you’re active or sick; and lastly, listen to your body.

If you feel thirsty, hot, fatigued, or lightheaded, it means that your body is telling you that it needs more fluid. Follow these tips and tricks for staying hydrated and enjoying the summer weather without having to worry about dehydration!
