I have always lived with various chronic illnesses. When my daughter was growing up with had travel board games so that I could rest on the couch but I could still play with her. We used a portable table like this tablemate table. It is height adjustable and pulled up to the couch and we could easily use it to place a small board game on top of it.

It is important to find ways to still interact with your family, especially children or grandchildren when living with a chronic illness or chronic pain. The illness or pain may be short-lived, or it may be something that you deal with forever. It changes your life but it does not have to be life-ending. You can still do things you want to do, you just need to do them in a different way.
