How to make creamy cucumber dill salad
Dressings are a great way to add flavor and variety to salads. Preparing the dressing ahead of time, if possible, gives you more options for what ingredients go in it as well as letting flavors develop over time so that they're not too strong when served on your salad. This rustic vinaigrette takes only 15 minutes prep-time (less than most dressings) but packs tons of fresh herb flavor with its six simple ingredients: Greek yogurt, sour cream, or lemon juice from concentrate/juice puree, fresh dill, garlic powder and of course cucumbers, salt & pepper!
Dressing Ingredients:
1/3 c. Greek yogurt
1/3 c. sour cream
1½ T. fresh lemon juice
1 T. fresh dill, finely chopped
½ t. garlic powder
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Salad Ingredients:
2 large cucumbers, sliced and cut into half rounds
½ medium red onion, sliced thin
1 T. fresh dill, roughly chopped
Cucumbers, red onions and dill are the primary ingredients in this refreshing creamy cucumber salad. The cucumber slices add a crunchy texture that complements the soft onion rings while providing an elegant backdrop for even more flavor to be added through fresh herbs like basil or thyme.

Creamy cucumber dill salad directions:
- Whisking together all the ingredients in a medium bowl, I can create an amazing dressing that is packed with flavor. Adjusting seasonings as desired adds just enough saltiness and tang for my taste buds while still allowing me to be creative each time I make it.
2. Add chopped cucumber, red onion and roughly chopped fresh dill to a large bowl. Pour the dressing on top of it all and toss well before serving or chill for up to two hours ahead of time if you want your salad chilled!
Should you peel your cucumbers for cucumber dill salad?
We all know that cucumber salads are delicious. But, what makes them really stand out is the taste of a freshly peeled cucumber! So now you're wondering if it's necessary to peel your cucumbers before making one? Well, there are many factors at play – how old and ripened they are as well as whether they're an English variety versus regular market ones with skin thicknesses varying in widths. For best results for flavor and texture alike, here's my suggestion: start by checking the type of cuke first then go from there because only these two have differences on peeling necessity.

Creamy cucumber dill salad without mayonnaise
We can load cucumber salads with heavy mayonnaise dressings that mask the flavor of their primary ingredient, cucumbers. This is a lightened up version of creamy cucumber salad that is full of flavor but leaves a refreshing taste on your palate and refuses to leave you feeling bogged down by too much dressing. If you like thicker dressing, cut back on the amount of lemon juice for something creamy or add yogurt instead if it feels right!
What to use instead of fresh dill?
Do you keep fresh herbs on hand in your kitchen? I do not. I am not much of a cook so I use dried herbs all the time. They keep longer. Use one tablespoon of fresh dill weed for every teaspoon of dried dill.
What can you use instead of dill?
Use one teaspoon of dried tarragon for every tablespoon of fresh dill called for in a recipe.
Add-ins to make it your own
Does your family like tomatoes? You can totally add tomatoes to this salad as well. I think the small grape tomatoes cut in half would be a perfect addition to this salad.

What to serve with this creamy cucumber dill salad?
