My Monk Journal Review
There are different monk journals on the market. I had the opportunity to review one from Monk Manual. I received their Monk Manual Starter kit to review.
I received:
- 1 90-Day Monk Manual Planners (8.5” x 5.5”)
- 1 3-Packs of Yearly Planning Booklet Inserts for your Monk Manuals (12-month calendar, 12-month goal tool, extra dotted notes)
- 1 Black Grafton Buy-For-Life Pen
- 1 Being + Doing Mountainscape sticker
- 1 Hunter Green Monk Manual Diecut sticker
- 1 Glass is Full Diecut sticker
I love the idea that is a 90-day planner. This gives you time to give it a try but you are not committed to a full year. Each monthly section has a calendar for you to write down dates and appointments like a typical calendar. I do wish that section was bigger to write in. I write big and found it difficult to write down my doctor’s appointments in tiny squares.
Each month has a theme page which is helpful. Some people work on a theme of their life monthly. It could be self-care, spiritual, physical health, etc, or anything else they want to concentrate on that particular month.

There is check-in on how you did that month with relationships, physically, spiritually, work/vocational, personal growth and play. I love that it just gives a thumbs up or a thumbs down so you don’t have to beat yourself up too bad if you did not have a good month in any of those areas.
Then you can fill out “One question I would like answered this month” This of course is a personal life question.
The reflect section has you fill out 3 biggest accomplishments, 4 relationships you are thankful for and the greatest insight gained.
The habit tracking section of the monk journal has a tracking section obviously for the habits you are working on. The reflect section has 3 lines for your biggest accomplishments. There is also a section for the following:
- Habit Insights
- Meaningful Moments
- God is Teaching Me
One Way I Can Improve Next Week
The Grafton pen was surprisingly heavy. I got used to the weight very quickly, I just was not expecting it to weigh so much. The monk journal has a built-in bookmark and a wrap-around bookmark to keep the book closed. There is also a pen loop at the top that you can clip the Grafton pen to so it is always with your journal.

I also received 3 mini books that are small calendars that also have dotted pages typically used for bullet journaling. They are perfect to add to a purse or briefcase. Overall I was very pleased with this journal and the ease of using it. I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking into this type of journaling system.
A monk journal is a great way to start your day and get into the practice of meditation. The morning pages are a great way to set your intention for the day and get clear on what you want to focus on. If you’re looking for a journal that will help you grow spiritually, I highly recommend picking up a copy of the monk manual.
